I admit that I am a part of the “cis white male majority” but I do not identify with the people who look like me who want to keep everyone else down.

I am happy to witness minorities and people of color chipping away at “white establishment”. I also am happy to watch women of all colors beat on the door of the patriarchy and demand a seat at the table.

The looks of horror at losing their grip on the world. The whining about being “aggrieved”. The shock when they’re suddenly getting fed a dose of their own medicine. I take tremendous joy in watching all of that happen, and I will continue to take joy in that as well as encourage others to break down the walls.

Trump is the embodiment of entitlement, white privilege, patriarchy, and white male dominance in this society. To see him fall - or better yet, torn town - would give everyone who was fucked over by him - directly or indirectly - a bit of catharsis and I believe would invigorate people to move forward.

As for me, someone who has watched Trump run roughshod over the justice system since I was a teenager, I will be cheering when he gets brought down, because he’s a fucking asshole.

Brian, Ditto on your entire comment, except gay, and "since I was".. in my 20s. The greed that too many of our neighbors are exhibiting would be unimaginable if history were any different, sadly.

Alicia Norman: Victims include unpaid Atlantic-City contractors for the Taj Mahal whom Trump stiffed, accepting invaluable goods and major services and skipping payment through yet another bankruptcy. These contractors would laugh in the face of cultish-Trumpee claims of "victimless" crimes.

Thank you for this, I will use this as a perfect example, to put a face on those he harmed with his selfishness.

People lost their businesses, their homes, filed bankruptcy, and some committed suicide. Trump is depraved.

This cannot be brought up enough. What he did to those contractors was literally criminal. Entire families were ruined but Trump got another chance - being reborn on home plate thinking he hit another home run.

Right--it sickens me to think that anyone believes Trump is some kind of victim.

It was openly discussed in nyc that he stiffed people working for him.

Hell yes to all of this Alicia! I recently started reading Celly Blue. She’s on point. I agree with every damned thing you’ve brought up here. Someone told me the victimless crime bullshit and I went ballistic! How blind can people be? 🤦‍♀️

I know your question was rhetorical but the last 10-20 years have shown that people will believe what tickles their bias, especially if they lack the courage, empathy, or self-awareness to have an open mind.

Right. Too many people have become lazy and resort to primitive tribal thinking. Critical thinking is becoming a lost practice. Hate is easy to sell.

Expand full comment

Alas, the rise of social media is a huge contributor to this. People never need to leave their ideological cocoons and deal with reality.

Very true

MAGAs will never admit that they are Trump’s victims too. That they buy his bullshit (figuratively and literally) willingly doesn’t make it any less so. Do I feel bad for them? No. How many times can you feel sorry for people who won’t own up to the fact they’re getting conned? Plenty of evidence to prove it. I don’t think it’s still online but there was a Twitter account not long after Trump was elected to the tune of “are you sorry now that you voted for him?” Quite a few people regretted it.

Let's not forget Weisselberg is in Rikers right now (again) for the acts he did for the boss. I do hope, as a repeat offender, that he isn't getting the cushy infirmary digs nor early release that he got the first go round.

Plus he's got a perjury trial to look forward to.

He entered a guilty plea, so no trial, that is why he checked back in as of last week for (hopeFully) 5 months.

Okay, I stand corrected. There are so many different trials in progress, it's impossible to keep track without a scorecard.

Well said! And I couldn’t agree more with your points. Just this morning I finished an excellent read ‘The Color of Compromise: The truth a/b the American Church’s complicity in Racism’—Jamar Tisby. It highlights what many of us know, or anyone who has heard the one of many evangelical pastors on southern radio stations while driving trying desperately to find something that doesn’t resemble nails on a chalkboard and make your ears bleed (yea that’s you Jerry Falwell 🤮, you’re not missed!). The racism in the U.S. has been perpetuated since European colonization and people like to act as if Jim Crow isn’t alive and well. Still a cancer that breeds throughout the legislative and judicial branches as continued conservative scotus courts have given more power to police. It’s near impossible to hold police accountable even when their racism etc is blatant.

Victimless? Tell that to all the contractors he stiffed. Tell that to Atlantic City, whose economy he singlehandedly wrecked. Tell that to all the victims of COVID that died or became permanently disabled as a result of his bungling and denial. The list goes on and on. His ignorant disciples can all fuck off.😡😡

Before there was E. Jean Carroll's successful win against Trump, there was Marvin Rothman's. He was a financial analyst who (correctly) predicted that Trump Taj Mahal would be a failure. Of course Trump took exception to that and even went as far as getting Marvin fired.

Few, if any, remember that.

Great story, though it was kind of disappointing that Marvin was sounding Trumpian at the end

Another well written essay, Alicia. You were dead on with fugly. I would be so glad to never see or hear about him again. The racial bias is also disgusting. White people so need to get over themselves. They are not better than everyone else.

No surprise, I did not learn about the Tulsa Race Massacre in high school or in college. The system is set up to keep white people ignorant on all the U.S. horrors against the Black and Indigenous communities while German children and teenagers learn about The Holocaust, Hitler and Nazis in school. Dump is the result of thus ignorance and privileged resistance as Tena Okun has termed it.
