Agree wholeheartedly. Zero sympathy when they wake up and smell something burning. It won’t be the toast, it’ll be jobs, health insurance, social security/disability checks and the house from climate change denialism.

I’ve understood them all along: “fuck your feelings”, bootstraps, “I’ve got mine”, “someday, I’ll be rich”, “climate change is a hoax”, “get rid of the ACA but I’ll still have Obamacare” and the coup de grâce “Trump alone can fix this”. I can’t even wish them “good luck” sarcastically because I don’t want it to be misinterpreted.

As I told hubby--I may be burnt too, but at least the people who started this fire will be consumed as well.

Unfortunately it is not that easy - this I get burned, too, is the problem. If all these vile people would have to eat their own selected shit sandwhich, and would all go down in flames, it would be one thing. But they are tearing us down with them.

Carsten, right, problem is the juggernaut is aimed at us all… we can fight and stop what we can but we won’t be able to stop it all . In this regard we can only take solace in the fact that these guys will suffer alongside us. We can also recognize we tried, so our conscience is clear.

Does it really give you solace that the house of your evil neighbour is burned to the ground when yours is? Or if yours is half burned? Or a quarter?

It does not for me.

Expand full comment

It's not so much solace as it feels like--how do I explain it? It's like this person ran around setting fires to home for years and everyone died--men, women, children--entire families. Innocent pets. Hundreds dead--and never incarcerated or caught. Now he has set fire to my house and somehow, this time, got burned too. Well, as I see it, I am dying yes, but not of my own hand. This person is though--of their own hand. Let's call it karma. I'd rather no one burned at all, but his person, who is malicious and evil, wanted to hurt others but never thought in terms of how it would feel if they suffered the same fate. Will such a person learn a lesson--likely not and that isn't the point--but perhaps they will be stopped by their own malice--they will be the instrument of their own destruction, harmed by the pain they wanted to inflict on others. So yes, if I must die a painful death due to malice, there is small solace in knowing the engineer of my demise did not get away scot free, that they are undone not by anything I did but what they did to themselves.

Now let’s do the roughly 1/3 of registered voters who couldn’t be bothered. Sure, there were the several thousand probably who were legit indisposed or vote actively suppressed, but 90 million (closest figure I’ve seen)?

If there are 5 Republicans and a vocal, uniformed Nazi (no ambiguity) with 4 other people at the table playing on their phones, that’s a table of 10 Nazis.

💯 You’ve written what I think. I’m sick of those bastards and their fake outrage and their reflexive cruelty.

Let’s put it this way— if a civil war broke out, I’d favor a good culling. It’s already a war.

Holding MAGA accountable for their actions will take a gun to their collective heads, negotiating reason, is beyond their understanding. "If" four years from now, there remains An American Constitution, with a Bill of Rights, and the opportunity to vote remains, those with clearer thoughts can negotiate continued freedom. Otherwise, they made a movie of the alternative.

I don't doubt Robert, but I think Trump's diabolical policies will take hold quite quickly. Watch them howl and try to blame others—eventually, even that won't work.

I agree 100%. Today a well meaning friend said we just need to see if through. I had made my thoughts known and instead of agreeing with me she acted like my feelings are irrational and need to just be and get through it. Hell no we won’t go. I won’t set aside how I believe to cower. Those days are done. I will be Louis as obnoxious as the Magaets are. I will fight fire with fire. It’s time.

And that's the thing—these constant calls for civility and the demands to "let it go" are nothing more than passive-aggressive attempts to silence us and dismiss our grievances. Well, not this woman—absolutely not. I refuse to play along. They will hear exactly what they dish out and see their own behavior reflected back at them. Turning the other cheek may be a noble ideal, but sometimes it’s just an excuse for people to avoid accountability.

Hmm, like this one perhaps?

Something I will never understand. General John Kelly was Trump's former chief of staff. A four star general. He warned us all that Trump was a fascist and unfit. And he was one just one of many people who worked closely with Trump and publicly denounced him. These are the people who knew Trump best.

And yet somehow Trump supporters thought they knew better. A jury convicted Trump after hearing all the evidence, but someone the Trump supporters knew that he was innocent.

I've been thinking a lot about Ionesco's play Rhinoceros. It can and did happen here.

Brilliant, Alicia! Anything that goes sideways, south, awry, and downright to hell will be blamed on the Dems, President Biden in particular, and likely VP Harris, although she wasn't creating policy in her position. Only one point of contention: any self-respecting cat will glance at you and then knock that vase off anyway. A lot of MAGATs are like that, too, sad to say.

Especially women! What kind of moronic women voted for monsters who want them to be incubators? Any woman who supports this BS is truly self-hating. Thank you for writing the truth: that NONE of these people has any morality, any kindness. Some people are still saying that their "sweet friend" voted for trump- but NO. NOBODY with any degree of kindness and any belief in justice would have voted for this scum.

The problem is that many of these Abrahamic-based religions teach women they are merely subservient vessels for the will of their husbands. A "good and virtuous" woman has no thought of herself. They probably hated Kamala saying a woman doesn't have to be humble. The fact that people, women, in particular, fall into these traps is truly sad. If it didn't negatively impact the rest of us, I would be all the same. "More power to you, honey, you do you." Unfortunately, such idiocy does not exist in a vacuum.

Unfortunately, I don't think this will happen. But I truly hope that the economic consequences the maggots and GQPs suffer will be enormous. Their god has NEVER experienced consequences for his evil actions -- EVER! as in NEVER ONE TIME IN HIS SORDID eight-decade so-called "LIFE". His rats (I'm thinking the Pied Piper here), follow him blindly, believing that they, too will experience no consequences. This is ugly, and this is NOT the way I have ever lived my life, but I hope that get SLAMMED in their faces by what will happen. Yes, I know. We, too, will suffer from his cruelty. In fact, we will probably suffer 100X's more because of our political beliefs. But I fervently hope that they will hurt, as they are hurting others so horribly.

My fear -- really, terror -- is that the streets will indeed flow with blood, that people will... You know what? I can't go on with that. I have to stop letting my mind "see" what my visions are trying to show me. I can't live that way.
