It is a tactic of abusive people, along with the tactics of gaslighting and DARVO, to find or create or use a single event to wash away all of their previous abuses and give themselves a new blank slate.

An example: the abusive spouse who has beaten their partner so badly that the partner is in the hospital. The abuser visits the hospital bearing a very large bouquet of flowers expecting all to be forgotten/forgiven. The abuse continues and when encountering objections by the victim the abuser says “But I brought you flowers, why can't you forgive.”

Yet when the abuser shows every sign that the abuse will continue - they still need to be stopped. Flowers- single events- don't change that.

We as a country, still need to talk about Jan 6, Project 2025, the Dobbs decision and much more as they indicate that the Republican party shows every sign that it will continue to abuse women, minorities, LGBTQ people and the very ideas of democracy and the rule of law. A single event of violence, while horrible, doesn't mean we cease talking about women's rights, voting rights, democracy or that we cease upholding the laws or applying the laws to Republicans too.

We can talk about the threat Project 2025 is to the constitution and the rule while also promoting the peaceful way we should handle this threat, which is to vote!

More than ever before we must speak out.

That's why I wear this "Reject Project 2025" shirt 👇

VOTE!

Our entire future depends on it.
