The meme? Thought it was hilarious. You don’t need to explain anything to her. Arms around you. Shake her off.

Alicia Norman's avatar

Thanks, Patris. I am doing the walk around shake off, lol.

Mike Hammer's avatar

Sometimes I find it better to just ignore them, don’t give them attention or a platform. That is their worst fear!

Lorraine Evanoff's avatar

Gurl, I hope you reported and blocked that troll bot. Who needs this shit!

Alicia Norman's avatar

Do you think it was a bot? My hubby said that too.

Lorraine Evanoff's avatar

It's definitely a troll, probably a real person but that's what Russia uses for bots😆 Your hubby is a smart guy, and great taste too!

Sarah Rain's avatar

I got you Alicia. You are safe here

Alicia Norman's avatar

Thank you so much, Sarah. Appreciate you :-)

DroppedAnchor's avatar

Alicia- meet Karen. Karen- grow up. And stop trying to shame people whose business you don't know.

Alicia Norman's avatar

100 percent. I have seen so many MAGA memes that were gawd awful--I just laugh or shake my head. I usually won't engage unless they @ me, but at this stage of the game I simply try to combat their disinfo with knowledge. Personal attacks though, yeah, I usually fightback--hard.

Charlie Austin's avatar

Strange! That bitch is toxic. Get rid of her.

Alicia Norman's avatar

IKR it feels sus anywayz, she has been lurking on my stack without commenting for days now.

Charlie Austin's avatar

Eeeh!😟😟

the real pambo's avatar

Good lord. I remember reading the meme and laughing out loud thinking, “you GO Alicia”!We all show up with our “baggage” to any situation/event/moment in life. Some people have heavier bags with a lot of stuff in them that they can’t let go of, so they’re pissed off and take out their displaced anger on others. Our filters can steer us into weird places if we aren’t present. Seems like that individual was just looking for something to poke at. You handled that like a champ, BTW.

Alicia Norman's avatar

LOL, thank you. Next time Imma try not to feed the Bear... lol

the real pambo's avatar

Just got replied to by our recent “friend”. She restacked my “Good lord” comment to you and basically asked me the same question she asked you. Really strange. Is she a bot? Is that a thing? There was also another comment added from someone named Big Mama, which went on and on for 20 paragraphs, with scary vulgar hateful stuff. I have blocked both individuals.

Alicia Norman's avatar

Also, thanks for telling me.

Alicia Norman's avatar

Wow, there seems to be this weird influx of crazies that are crawling out the wood work on Substack. It didn't use to be this bad but it certain does seem coordinated--maybe bots? Screenshot it then report and block. I have mine which I am gonna use if any Tomfoolery arises. I just don't trust how this feels.

the real pambo's avatar

I did screenshot the icky messages and they sit in my photos, bad energy and all! Dumb question: is there a way to report the messages even though I’ve already blocked them?

Alicia Norman's avatar

I think you would have to unblock them, if you already have don't worry about it. I am sure the reports on her and Big Mama will pile up. I think they are chaos agents with lord knows what agenda.

Alicia: Yeah, I saw your Meme and, knowing as I do the independence of kitties, took it to be hyperbole and a reference to your own independence and courage of principles.

I am very sorry that a person misunderstood and took it out in anger.

As a seasoned, old civil-service attorney, I learned long about the essence of communication.

First, there is irretrievably the fact: What is said.

Then, there is the subjective intent of the speaker.

Behind that speaker's intent, is all the experiences of that speaker's life that formulates how she thinks and expresses herself.

Behind even that, there is how the speaker perceives.

On the other side is the listener.

What did the listener hear?

Maybe the full words; maybe not; maybe there was some background noise that impaired the meaning of the spoken words.

What are the perceptions, how accurate is the listener?

What are the life-experiences of the listener that form what she had heard.

In the communications in today's column, I perceive this:

I saw the Meme with the kitty. Since I love Kitties, and I love YOUR Independent Mind, I thought the Meme was very cute and expressed that your independence cannot be and will not be suppressed.

A sentiment I share and cheer.

I took "Murder" as hyperbole.

I would NEVER want to think of "Murder" of a Dear Friend, as I treasure you to be. So, I took the reference, in affection for you as a friend, hyperbolically.

Of course, who isn't aware of the hundreds of murders of innocent black persons, each of whom is a family member, many are children, many are family moms. It is a disease and plague of our country.

I find it incomprehensible that anyone would attribute to you any intent to make light of this degrading shame in our country. Each of the lives lost is PRECIOUS and needs to be remembered: Breonna Taylor is one who is so poignant to me and I am still in shock at what happened to Ms. Taylor, who was a well-loved health-practitioner and a daughter and a loved one . . .

Now the persons you cite are not persons I know. If I understand them to have suffered murders in their family, especially of a mother, I remember their loved ones in their beautiful humanity and in sorrow for the loss.

I am very, very sorry all this exchange occurred. I am less angry at the other than hoping I misunderstood, but, certainly, if they suffered the loss of a Mother or other loved ones, I as a next friend at least share, as a next friend can, sorrow for that loss.

As Joyce Vance points out: We are in this together!

ALICIA: I am privileged to call myself a friend of yours. Keep going!

Alicia Norman's avatar

Thank you so much Amand. Mornings light finds me feeling kinda bad for her--I hope she finds peace.

Armand Beede's avatar

Alicia Norman: Your kitty Meme was cute.

So sorry for the lady's reaction. So sorry.

Keep with your independent thinking and your endurance.

Jennifer Em's avatar

Oh, geez. 🙄

Alicia Norman's avatar

Jennifer, what the actual hell??? She better be glad she wasn't in my face. I have never hit a person in my life but I draw the line at being told I endorsed female murder.

Jennifer Em's avatar

You were joking about YOU, not about someone else. I feel like she overreacted.

Alicia Norman's avatar

Indeed--and that pissed me off--I had a hard life too as I was trying to explain. There is no way I would make light of tragedy--it was a joke. Thanks Jennifer--I am glad I am not the only one seeing this as an attack--because that is what it felt like.

Jennifer Em's avatar

It was. I see her doing it too other people, too.

Alicia Norman's avatar

What is her damage--she may just be chaos agent--oh no. Please don't tell me this is a new form of Nazi "attack"... would not put it past them.

Jennifer Em's avatar

No. I see her fighting with people like that, where normally, it's better not to engage.

Sharon Buchbinder, PhD's avatar

Yikes. She’d best not read the news, go on Threads, or any other social media. She’d have to go after the entire world. Bot or not, I’m sorry that happened to you. That’s just awful.

Alicia Norman's avatar

Indeed--my point was that there are aspects of death that we always sort of examine, and that aspect is not meant to demean but understand, but in many instances, dark comedy, horror films all that stuff is just a nod at our mortality not a disrespect and it certainly isn't an endorsement of any kind of violence. If such a person really is that, dare I say, fragile, she needs to do as I do and get into therapy. Even though I shouldn't have responded to her mess, I will say therapy has put a lot of my prior pain into perspective, enough for me to know that what she did was triggering, that it was okay for me to recognize that, and because I did, my anger dissipated quickly.

Jennifer Em's avatar

Ok. Gotcha. We our wires crossed!

Jennifer Em's avatar

That was aimed at her, not at you. Sorry!

Alicia Norman's avatar

let me edit for clarity--that was about her--I'm still pissed.

Charlie Austin's avatar

You should be.

Alicia Norman's avatar

The person just attacked me and started shit for no reason.

Charlie Austin's avatar

It sounded to me like a bunch of raving madness.

Alicia Norman's avatar

Oh I know--same sistah

Alicia Norman's avatar

I am like--whaaaaat?

marcus816's avatar

She is a idiot and a asshole.

Alicia Norman's avatar

Have you run into her before a well?

marcus816's avatar

No, it’s just that anyone who would attack you as being uncaring and irresponsible is obviously unhinged.

LoveMuley's avatar

Meme was funny. Just stop with the whatever the hell that was!

Susan Niemann's avatar

Crazy loon...she’s obviously unstable. 😳

Alicia Norman's avatar

Hubby said the same... agreed.

No, it isn't nothing, but no one was talking about murdered mothers in that meme. As I revealed below, I lost my mother to a drunk driver, but I still live life and I do not go around attacking people on the internet for cat memes. I think I speak for everyone here when I say there is no animosity here, maybe frustration--but also, love. But we cannot allow ourselves to be attacked. I will say this over and over until it resonates. Please get help. As I stated earlier--I have suffered trauma. I seek justice so others do not suffer as I did. There is difference between seeking justice and causing chaos and pain. Please sis, get help. This is what I should have said to you before.

Anne Belov's avatar

What the ACTUAL F*ck!?!?!?!?! SHE butted in to YOUR post to make it all about her over a hilariously dark meme? What the duck? Sounds like she was looking for a fight. Imma go block her ass now.

BTW, don't tell anyone I'M NOT REALLY A PANDA!!!!!

Alicia Norman's avatar

LOL, right, and then acting like I owed her some kind of explanation... and wait YOU'RE NOT A PANDA? *GASP!* ROFLMAO

Anne Belov's avatar

She really was looking for a fight. I mean...you don't barge into someone's house and start criticizing the furniture and then take a dump on the couch. I *really* don't get some people.

Um...I'm *pretty* sure I'm a panda.

Alicia Norman's avatar

I think so too--she is like one of those folks who screams for the manager because their kid saw a statue of The David in a gift shop.

And I mean, you look like a Panda... maybe we need to find and hire a Panda analyst, lol...

Anne Belov's avatar

And since when do you have to share your entire history every time you write a post, or display some humorous meme? I fell like unblocking her so I can block her all over again.

Who says pandas aren't fierce? We can be fierce when we want to be!

Alicia Norman's avatar

Hey, Panda's are fierce cuz they are bears. Pandas are bears, right?

Anne Belov's avatar

We are! We be bears! Do not be fooled by our cute fluffy exteriors!

Alicia Norman's avatar

Now, the Red Panda--that is a whole new can of worms that I do not even want to know about.. cuz they ain't bears. I have no idea what they are.

Alicia Norman's avatar

They are sooo cute but yeah, I'd toss bamboo at it and run if I had to!

I saw that meme when you posted it and enjoyed it

Over a cat meme, really? Put your energy into something that matters, like your own mental health. I’m sorry that happened to your mother but you can’t inject her into every unrelated online argument as a way to instantly win it. You picked a fight over a cat meme as if someone had personally attacked you, but people share relatable memes to be lighthearted and share a chuckle. Even dark humor, which is a totally valid thing. Continuing to harass and engage Alicia isn’t going to turn out how you think - it’s only going to send you deeper into negativity. I wish you the best

Alicia Norman's avatar

She has been ban hammered and reported. I documented what I could. I seriously feel bad for her, no joke.

areader's avatar

Oh, the cat was cute. Who hasn't seen a cat 'make that face'? Your comment made sense. Who would have trouble following that?

Alicia Norman's avatar

I think her point is to be disagreeable. When I see this I recognize there is just way too much pain in the world. Imma try to cultivate less anger and more understanding in this realm while recognizing I gosta get the heck away from such folks. Especially as the election heats up and ppl are gonna try to distract us from what is really important.
