I’ll keep this one short and sweet because I am unsure how I feel about this.
Yes, another fun, MAGA meltdown-inducing victory was scored, on the other hand, Trump Co. will take this all dah way to the Supremes, who view Trump as a bit of a “Lovechild” (see what I did there…?)
Will they try to help the OFM, or will SCOTUS at least try to pretend they are interested in upholding the law and not filling their pockets?
Even so, I might entertain a backflip or two because why not?
So, what had happened was
Guys, Maine did a thing, and it was a very cool thing indeed—
According to Reuters:
Maine Secretary of State Shenna Bellows, a Democrat, concluded that Trump, the front-runner for the Republican presidential nomination, incited an insurrection when he spread false claims about voter fraud in the 2020 election and then urged his supporters to march on the Capitol to stop lawmakers from certifying the vote.
CNN also reports:
Maine’s top election official has removed former President Donald Trump from the state’s 2024 primary ballot, in a shock decision based on the 14th Amendment’s “insurrectionist ban.”
Maine Secretary of State Shenna Bellows paused her decision pending a potential appeal in state court, which Trump’s team said they intend to file.
The decision makes Maine the second state to disqualify Trump from office, after the Colorado Supreme Court handed down its own stunning ruling that removed him from the ballot earlier this month. The development is a significant victory for Trump’s critics, who, citing the January 6, 2021, attack on the US Capitol, say they’re trying to enforce a constitutional provision that was designed to protect the country from anti-democratic insurrectionists.
To SoS Shenna Bellow’s credit, she makes it known that she did not come to her conclusion lightly, and I get it —still, the Constitution says what it says. Full stop.
We know the bought and sold Supreme Court is going to do what it do eventually—we can only celebrate for so long. While we have the sweet taste of a second victory in our mouths, let us savor it and raise a glass to a far more promising New Year.
One Love!
I will definitely start to celebrate, and break open this special bottle of champagne I’ve been saving, when the Supreme Court makes the ultimate decision. Until then, nothing is certain, but I kind of like that the states are taking some initiative here.
Yes, I DID see what you did there!!! FOTFLMAO!
